English review, followed by the Romanian translation of the review (Recenzie în engleză, urmată de traducerea în română a recenziei)I received this book through Goodreads' First Reads giveaways. This is no way affects my review."A Little Bit Lucid" is a collection of short stories which have one thing in common: nothing is what it seems. While some of the stories are truly original and thought-provoking, I felt that others were a little bit boring and/or unfinished. While reading these stories, I realized that every single detail was very important, as it could be the key to solving the mysteries. In the next lines, I will write about the stories that I particularly liked.Follow Me is the first story in this book and the one who opened my appetite for more, who made me realize that this book may be better than I expected. It follows an average forty-something man called Paul, who is fatter than he wants and who has a mole on his cheek. The story starts with Paul admiring a woman with whom he knows he has no chances because of his looks. He then thinks of losing some weight and getting his mole removed. He is a normal person who has never made a crime in his life, so he is very surprised and scared when a surveillance drone, which seems to be very expensive and of the latest technology, starts following him everywhere he goes. What happens after that is something unexpected that really makes you curious about the rest of the stories. The moral of this story is to accept yourself as you are.The next story in the book is called A New World, and it shows a different perspective on the matter of conquistadores. This time, instead of dealing with primitive natives, the Spanish will have to fight against very strong, intelligent Inca. They capture two of the Spanish soldiers and force them to share their knowledge, thus no longer being afraid of the sound of firing guns and developing a special military strategy and weapons, perfect to defeat the Spanish army.I particularly enjoyed Patient No. 9. It is the story of a man who lives in a mental institution. The title of the story is the nickname the man is given, even though he is not really the ninth patient, but only stays in room number 9. He is a very strange case, as his doctor doesn’t know very much about why he is there. The doctor develops an interest in the patient when the man makes a remark about some cockroaches, claiming that he was the one who designed them. The man’s story sounds really crazy, but the amount of details he gives to support the theory is very impressive. I can’t give you any more information about this story as it would really spoil it if you are planning to read it. But I’m guessing you have a little clue. The forth story, Truth Be Told is about a man that wakes up one day with the impossibility of telling lies. It really gets problematic once he starts saying out loud what he really thinks, especially at his workplace, with a very attractive boss... I found this story to be particularly funny, and very clever at the end, when you find out about how this situation occurred.A Question of Timing tells the story of a man named Alain, who is the leader of a project that includes the excavation of an African region, very close to a tribe – the Mojulu. Everything gets very mysterious when he finds a statue of a camel, which seems to be made of titanium. But how could it be, since the tribe seems to be so primitive? This story is also one I liked very much, as the ideas I found within it intrigued me.The last stories were not as good as the first ones, in my opinion, as some stopped very suddenly, giving the impression of being unfinished, and others seemed to have no point, or any original element. For Sale is your typical man-talks-with-lady-that-turns-out-to-be-a-ghost story.A Little Bit Lucid, which gives the title of the book, bored me out of my mind, as it is very slow, even though the idea that started it had potential. A man wakes up to find that all the people in the city are dead, and he is the only one alive. Oh, and the animals seem to be unaffected. And he, obviously, is trying to find out if there are others unaffected out there too...Of Kings and Dragons revolves around the idea of a kingdom where dragons live. However, they are poisonous beasts, and one king captures a dragon in hopes of ending the war, destroying an entire city in order to make his enemies fear him. The main idea that I “extracted” from this story is that a dragon cannot be tamed, and I would have liked the story more if it hadn’t been rushed.A Refreshing Coolness is more interesting, and I liked it most from the last stories. It revolves around a man that tries to kill himself in a unique way, at a specific date, but fate has other plans for him and he ends up wishing to survive.Long Way Home is the last story and it is about a couple that is cast away on an island in the middle of the Pacific. There, they find a man that has been living there for seven years, as a punishment for committing a crime involving money. The end of the story was hilarious and I couldn’t help smiling. All in all, this book is an interesting one, which makes you question the way you think about certain things. I recommend it to open-minded people, or those who like to be surprised.______________________________________Am primit acestă carte prin intermediul concursurilor de pe Goodreads. Mi-a plăcut mai ales Patient No. 9. For Sale e povestea tipică bărbatul-vorbeşte-cu-o-femeie-care-se-dovedeşte-a-fi-fantomă.
